Very excited to visit Contain Ya’Self this afternoon. Astrotwitch painting, Klara making a zine, lots of art on the walls already. There will be many events here between now and October – look out for the painted shipping containers by the river, right behind the Footscray Art Centre. Part gallery, part creative space, definitely worth dropping by. Here’s some work in progress shots of what Astrotwitch got up to today, a sweet portrait of Courtney Trouble. To find out what’s happening, like Contain Ya’Self on facebook.
Creature Creature’s new Akin installation opened last night at Ruffian gallery. Here’s a sweet timelapse of them in action. Check it out at 361 Barkly St, Footscray.
Baby Guerilla’s solo show opened at Post Industrial Design on Friday, March 1. Her works are stunning, poignant, and mysterious, and the temporary tattoos a fabulous idea. On til March 17 at 638 Barkly St, West Footscray. Land of Sunshine has great pictures of the show, and there are more (including a beautiful temporary tattoo shot) over at Invurt. Lots of great Baby Guerilla street art pics (around Melbourne in the last year and a half) over at PrePrint’s blog, do go check it out…
So much to love at The Other this afternooon. I went to see what Baby Guerilla and CALM have been up to, but became instantly fond of Aly Aitken’s work as well. Other faves are Craig Cole’s Melton and Adam Laerksen’s Novice…If you weren’t at Trocadero Art Space today, the show runs until September 22.
The middle of town is a construction zone, the station is a modern eyesore, but I found enough old Footscray today to fall in love with. Thank you to Kim for the guided tour, I will be back!
Just one of Nick Ilton’s Insert Art Here pieces for the Big West Festival
Next time? more art, donuts from the Olympic stand, and lots of picture-taking.
