Island is somewhere between contemporary dance and installation art, with a soundscape by Morgan Hickinbotham that is utterly breathtaking. Dancers James Batchelor, Amber Mc Cartney and Bicky Lee explore ritual, solitude, pressure and space, in a very compelling and hypnotic 45 minute show. Ella Leoncio’s set design is powerful, sparse and minimalist (great use of tape, movable mirrored panels and lighting), and encourages the viewer to walk around during the performance. Another very interesting show at Dancehouse, thanks to M for the invite.
