spare fruit? fruit squad harvest wants you!

Do you have extra fruit on your backyard trees? More lemons than you know what to do with? Jika Jika Community Centre wants to collect homegrown produce, and will give it to people who need food relief. They are able to harvest your fruit trees or collect boxes of fruit from your front porch. 22 volunteers (trained in fruit tree maintenance) are working on a pilot programme right now. The plan is to arrange their first harvest for the last week of November, in the southern part of Northcote bounded by Separation St, St Georges Rd, Station St, and Heidelberg Rd. Please contact them on 03) 9482-5100, or email if you have fruit to donate! Fruit Squad is an initiative of Transition Darebin , working with Jika Jika Community Centre. Partly funded by Darebin Council. They hope to begin harvesting on a larger scale from 2013.
