don gray’s mural: federal hotel, thursday island

I spent a day on Thursday Island and fell in love. The people, the beaches, the music of Seaman Dan and the Mills Sisters, the amazing cultural centre, and the cab driver in tropical uniform ( hibiscus aloha shirt with navy epaulettes). I lunched at the Federal Hotel, where $18 buys you a bowl of local prawns, a green salad, and some cocktail sauce.
