black is the colour

…of a tres fabby exhibition. Yes, I finally made it to Black In Fashion: Mourning To Night. Carefully chosen fashions (from seventeenth century upto present day) and a great soundtrack made for a most enjoyable experience. Take a look here for pics.

If you haven’t seen it already, do go. Split between the NGV and the Ian Potter Centre, you will see black as clothing for the wealthy, mourning attire, eveningwear, punk/fetishists, cocktails, and more. Designers? Oh yes! Vivienne Westwood, Versace, Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe, YSL, Balmain, Dior, Gaultier, Martin Grant, Balenciaga, Vionnet, Jenny Bannister, Magg, Mad Cortes…

So join the crow set (kasaru-zoku), pull on some inky layers, and…what am I saying? This is Melbourne, you’re probably all noired up and ready to go.

My favourites? Watanabe – Zippered Dress, Kawakubo – Lapel Scarf, Versace – Exit Dress.

Vavavoom!
